Revitalization at The Oaks

The Oaks (160, 170, 180 & 200 Chalkfarm Dr., Toronto)

Operating for more than 60 years in the residential and commercial marketplace, Greenwin is one of Canada's premier full-service real estate firms, building successful communities and creating shared value for clients and tenants alike. The Oaks neighborhood in Toronto is bounded by Black Creek to the south and west, Jane St. on the east, and Chalkfarm Dr., which winds its way through the neighborhood of adjacent bungalows to the north. The neighborhood is comprised of four high-rise towers, constructed back in the early 1970s, which is currently home to approximately 4,000 people, living in 1,215 suites.

When Greenwin took over the management of The Oaks in September 2009, we implemented a comprehensive and unique process to revitalize the buildings at 160, 170, 180 and 200 Chalkfarm Drive. We have fostered a net that brings together the best people from real estate investment, property development, property management, urban planning, peacemaking, crime prevention, building ownership and other social service agencies to revitalize the community both socially and culturally.

The Oaks Revitalization Project draws on a committee comprised of academics, residents, community activists, concerned citizens, Greenwin, Intelligarde Security, Doorsteps Neighbourhood Services, Literature for Life, Dusk Dances, TD Canada Trust, the Believe to Achieve Foundation, Ward 7 Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti, Food Share, the City of Toronto and local businesses, to embark on a community rejuvenation project

The Oaks Revitalization Association (ORA)

The initial component of this community rejuvenation project was the creation of a community organization, the ORA, that provides social enrichment and educational programs for children, youth and families in the Jane-Wilson area who may be at risk of engaging in anti-social behavior. By bringing educational and recreational programs to children, youth, seniors and families living in our buildings, many tenants have developed a newfound appreciation for and sense of belonging to their home at The Oaks.
