We recently hosted our first Indigenous Cultural Competency Training (ICCT) session, led by the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres (OFIFC). Organized by was organized by Jenn Green, Director, Affordable Housing and Corporate Social Responsibility, this comprehensive, full-day training was attended by a broad cross-section of our organization, including our President & CEO, Kevin Green and Chairman, Cary Green.

At Greenwin, we are committed to taking meaningful steps toward reconciliation, and we recognize that education is the critical first step. This session marked only the beginning of our journey.

During the session, we challenged ourselves to rethink what we know—and don't know—about Indigenous history, culture, and experiences. We confronted long-held assumptions, learned about the impact of historical and ongoing injustices, and began to build a foundational understanding that is crucial for strengthening our relationships with Indigenous communities.

Participants left the training feeling empowered to be agents of change. We also engaged with the trainers to gather insights on how we can make a tangible, meaningful difference for Indigenous peoples and the broader community.

This is just the beginning. Our goal is to not only educate but also to foster an environment where cultural sensitivity is paramount, and micro-aggressions are actively recognized and addressed. We are committed to continuous learning and action as we work towards creating a more inclusive and respectful community.
