The people, cultures, backgrounds, and stories of our dynamic workforce formed and continue to form the fabric of Greenwin. At our core, we are diverse, vibrant, and committed to celebrating the uniqueness of our people - 365 days a year.
As an industry, we thrive thanks to the cultural mosaic that defines our country as a whole. Asian heritage month gives us yet another opportunity to recognize and spotlight the many achievements and contributions of Canadians of Asian heritage and the cultural wealth of our organization.
To honour Asian Heritage Month and highlight the diverse identities and experiences of our employees, we reached out to the Pan-Asian members of Team Greenwin to share a piece of their unique stories.
Here’s a sampling of what some had to say.
I am proud of being Asian. I have been vegetarian since birth, which is something I value deeply. Having been born into a Hindu family, being vegetarian has been my favourite cultural tradition and even though I am the only one out of my siblings to continue to follow it, I love it. I see my cultural values emulated at work in that everyone is treated as an equal, which is extremely important in any workplace. – Siva S., Building Representative |

I’m proud to be Asian and especially proud of our heritage. We have strong family values and are taught to be respectful and mindful of others. These values are reflected at Greenwin. Loyalty, respect for others and hard work pays off. At Greenwin, nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it and I really value that. Chinese New Year is my favourite tradition because that’s when we have big family dinners and give out red pockets with money in it. I also love our variety of delicious cuisines! – Lily W., Director, Greenwin Cares |

Greenwin’s philosophy encompasses so many different things including respect, diversity, and compassion, which is representative of many different cultures. Tomb sweeping is the most important tradition to my family. This is an annual visit to the graves of our ancestors to pay our respects, provide an offer of food and tea, remove weeds by the gravestone and plant new flowers. Being reminded of the sacrifices and hardships of those before us is something I hope will never be lost with the new generations of my family. – Sue C., Executive Assistant to Kevin Green, President & CEO |

I’m proud to be an Asian for what my culture embodies – discipline, hard work, honesty, humility. These values are something I bring to my professional life daily. To me, it also means being in a tight knit family with a rich culture of music, opera, fine arts and delicious foods, my favourite being Dim Sum. I’m a Chinese–Jamaican by birth and I have the best of both worlds, Jamaican & Chinese cultures. Growing up in Jamaica, my parents made sure that we all gathered for at least one family meal together a week. Today, I continue that tradition with my own family. I make sure that my son and daughter join me and my wife for supper every Friday evening, without excuses. Family time means the world to me and there is nothing more valuable and precious than spending family time together. – Tony L., Manager, Accounts Payable |

To me, being Asian equates to embracing Asia’s vast cultural values that are passed on from generation to generation, regardless of which corner of the world you live in. Filipinos are known for being hard workers. Regardless of our job title, salary, and complexity of the work, we give a 100% effort because we view our job as a blessing. My favourite tradition is family get-togethers to celebrate any occasion. – Jess F., Vice President, Finance |
